Batuwaththa,Ragama Train - Bus Accident

A train rammed into a passenger bus at a railway crossing in Ragama today (31/03/2011) injuring at least 4 people of which one is serious, the Ragama police said.
The accident had occurred at Batuwatte in Ragama and the bus had got entangled to the engine of the train after the accident resulting in it being dragged a fair distance, the police said.
The bus was dragged several feet away after it was hit by the train and the railway department said that train services along the track have been suspended.
Sri Lanka railway department said that efforts are underway to remove the damaged bus from the track and resume normal train operations along that route.
This train was travelling between Matara to Vavuniya while the passenger was was plying between Ragama and Kandana.
